New liquid terminal to operate on interim basis

17 Jan 2024 / Jawaharlal Nehru Port, India

State-run oil refiner Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) will start operating a new liquid cargo berth next to the facility it already runs at Jawaharlal Nehru Port.

BPCL is expected to start operating the new berths later this month or from early February, on the same terms and conditions as the liquid berths 1 and 2.

This is an “interim” arrangement till the port authority finalises the tender to pick an operator. BPCL is one of the seven bidders to place price bids to equip, operate and maintain the new liquid cargo berths 3 and 4.

The new berths will ease the pressure on the heavily used existing liquid berths, allowing BPCL to bring additional liquid cargo.

Once the new terminal commence operations, berthing delays for tanker vessels arriving JNPT are expected to be reduced. Chemical, edible oil, molasses, base oils and CBFS cargoes will be handled. POL commodities will be subject to installation of necessary unloading arms and pipeline connectivity.
