The ports of Ashburton, Cape Preston West, Dampier, Port Hedland and Varanus Island remain at Cyclone Alert Stage 1 – Monitor.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) update issued at 0800 hours local time today (20 February), ex-Tropical Cyclone Lincoln is located well inland in the vicinity of Halls Creek, and moving slowly towards the west. It is expected to move west-northwest during the day and move over water off the west Kimberley coast on Wednesday afternoon or evening.
Once offshore Ex-Tropical Cyclone Lincoln is expected to move towards the southwest and strengthen, redeveloping into a tropical cyclone on Thursday.
On Friday Lincoln is likely to turn towards the south and approach the west Pilbara coast as a category 2 tropical cyclone.
There is a significant risk that it strengthens further to become a severe tropical cyclone prior to when it crosses the coast, which is expected either late Friday or during Saturday.
